Recent Campership Fund letter - April 2010

Dear Friends:
I want to take the time today to thank you for the meaningful support you provide to The Woods. Every summer, hundreds of children and teens attend summer camp and many of them would not be able to if it were not for your support in the form of camperships. I want to share with you the story of one such camper who would not have attended camp without the support of our Woods family. Kasandra Traweek Pirkey came to The Woods as a Sherwood Forest camper. She credits her time at The Woods as helping lead her to success:

I am the youngest of four girls and my mother did not have the funds to send me to camp during the summer. We attended Park Blvd Presbyterian Church and all of us girls had activities at the church through the years. I know there was a scholarship for us to attend Westminster Woods. I started off at Sherwood Forest and attended every year through my high school freshman year.
My time at Westminster Woods was some of the happiest I had as a child. It helped me grow as a young woman and give me a strong foundation that has served me well over the years. Much has changed in my life since I was a youngster at your camp. Through much love, support, and encouragement over the years, I am not only a college graduate, but I hold a doctorate from Texas A&M University. I am also an officer in the US Air Force. |

Kasi’s story reminds us just how meaningful a week at camp can be to a child. Kasi has started her own yearly campership donation to The Woods to help a deserving child experience the love, support and growth we offer. This year’s summer camp theme is “Love to Serve,” and there is no better way to spread God’s message of love and service than allowing a child to attend a week of camp at The Woods. Last year we were able to double the amount of campership money raised and send more needy kids to camp than ever - let’s do it again! Your generous donation at this time is welcomed and appreciated.
