About Friendship Camp

Friendship Camp is a week for adults with developmental disabilities to express joy, create friendships, embrace nature, and worship God. Surrounded by our loving staff, Friendship Campers experience fellowship, relaxation, and all around camp fun. Join us in a community of loving individuals, all who recognize and celebrate that everyone is a child of God.

A day in the life

Our daily schedule serves as a guideline, ready for adaptation and change. Westminster Woods best serves this population by meeting campers at their varying degrees of ability. Practicing patience, humor, and empathy is part of the daily routine and allows campers to exercise their own autonomy within that container of a summer camp setting.

Meals

Whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner, our Kitchen Team works hard to provide incredibly nutritious and delicious food. Served family style, meals are eaten together as cabin groups. A copy of the menu will be sent out the week before camp starts and SBJs (sunflower seed butter and jelly) are an alternate option for every meal. Westminster Woods accommodates a vegetarian diet but we strongly encourage campers to bring their own food supplements for any other dietary needs.

Morning Town Meeting

After breakfast, Friendship Camp gathers on the Big Green Field for a time of singing and announcements. Our musically gifted staff leads the camp in a series of classic songs before the floor is opened for campers to make their own announcements.

Rotations

Campers rotate between different activities that are tailored to their interests. Example activities include crafts at the craft shack, volleyball, and creating camp booklets. Campers get to interact with one another while engaging in entertaining activities.

Quiet Cabin Time (FOB)

At Friendship camp, we give campers ample rest time in their cabins. Whether they nap, color, or rest in their bunks, quiet cabin time serves as a calming and quiet change of pace and time to recharge.

Free Time

Campers can choose to spend Free Time at the pool, Craft Shack, playing games at the Big Green Field, and dancing to music in The Homestead. Campers are free to switch amongst Free Time activities at their heart’s desire.

Evening Event

Whether it is our annual parade, dance party, or talent show, our evening events encourage campers to celebrate being at camp with one another. Campers express joy and solidify friendships through the fun evening atmosphere.

Evening Town Meeting

At the end of the day, Friendship Camp gathers on the Big Green Field for a time of singing and announcements. Our musically gifted staff leads the camp in a series of classic songs before the floor is opened for campers to make their own announcements.

About our staff

Equipped with our diverse, exceptional, and highly trained staff, Friendship Camp has assigned Cabin Counselors dedicated to providing a transformational experience for each camper. Friendship Camp is proud to have a 1:3 staff-to-camper ratio, ensuring that campers are well supervised and taken care of. Each staff member goes through a weekend-long deliberate and focused training that ensures campers are well supported. Our summer staff is 18+ years old and all staff members are CPR certified and background checked.
